ARTIST'S PROFILE
Lorena Ermocida

Lorena Ermocida started dancing Tango professionally in 1989 and has since traveled extensively in different parts of the world both as a teacher and performer with different  companies among them Tango x 2.

She has also worked as an assistant of Carlos Copes, a living legend in the world of  Tango, and in fact has worked with him again last year dancing for 6 months at Esquina Carlos Gardel. She was the main dancer of the show Tango Baile which toured Italy recently..

From 1997 till May 2008, Lorena was the erstwhile partner of the great master, Osvaldo Zotto, where their partnership was acknowledged as one of the formidable in recent times and captured the hearts of millions of tango lovers the world over for more than a decade. Every time they perform together they simply make audiences love tango with so much increasing emotion that it tends to dominate your life.. The love goes on and on overtime, deepening its hold on you.

Lorena is a gifted dancer and communicator. She is one of the few tango artists who

had successfully combined the art of teaching and performing with great aplomb. Her sultry display of the sexiest tango walk is a stunning mastery of the dance brought about by years of solid experience.

She also worked with the world famous singer Julio Iglesias, as a special artist in his concert tours around the globe.

She has also done a lot of documentaries and films about tango and very notable of which is the film EVITA and the Italian documentary EL TANGO A PASSO DI.

Lorena's skills were honed and polished by the great masters who gave her the finer points which has made her become the respected and consummate artist that she is today. Respectable names such as Gustavo Naveira and Olga Besio, Mingo and Esther Pugliese , Antonio Todaro , and Gloria y Eduardo Arquimbau are few of the teachers

who have greatly influenced her craft.

Her finest performances are always punctuated by the classic Lorena-look, slim, sexy,  and sophisticated outfits, which has  made her become a fashion icon in the world  of  tango, embraced by both fellow artists and followers because of her impeccable  style of dressing. She has also acted as adjudicator for the World Tango Championship in Buenos Aires.

Lorena Ermocida comes out at her own terms this time around.

Fabian Peralta

He always knew that life was composed of different hues. His life in particular has had many--and various. As a child he walked to school everyday at 7 am, the cold morning breeze piercing though his bones, towards becoming a man who would know where to find his sustenance.

As a  child he dreamt of one day becoming someone, a man who would be an example for others--though he never knew how to bring out the virtues that others would notice and admire in him.

He knew that every struggle yields achievements. And his would have not been possible without the love and support of the people who are dear to him.

His struggles are his alone as he aspired to reach for his dreams.

Fabian Peralta is the man respected by many in the world of tango today. Dancer, teacher, performer par excellence. Excellent salon dancer. Salon tango champion in the 2006 Mundial de Tango together with Natacha Poberaj. Creative director and producer of Corporacion Tango.

A man who fulfilled his dreams.

Stefani K, German Artist

"TANGO  is an instant connection  to a gamut of human emotions, from sadness to joy,  toughness to tenderness and sensuality to creativity. It's a unique experience to share all these feelings through dance with another person"

Her love affair with painting started when she was in junior high school back in Cologne, Germany.   She derived her objects of inspiration from Jimmy Hendrix and Janice Joplyn whom she painted in many ways. She was into painting intermittently as a student on art markets in Germany, earning her money for her Asian trips. She also did aquarelle painting for many years which she exposed in her home town  Galleries .

She is the founder  and moving spirit behind the TANGO BALI CLUB a non profit organization and was instrumental to the introduction of the Argentine Tango to the People in the "island of the Gods".

Kim Dy-Liacco , Filipino artist

Kim rediscovered her passion for dance and art through Argentine Tango and photography.

A Fine Arts graduate from LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, Kim had always been involved in the arts. She took her first oil painting class at the age of 8, and participated in art competitions, drama club and extra-curricular modern dance throughout her school years.

She completed an International Baccalaureate Certificate in Art & Design at Jakarta International School, where she trained under French artist Rashid Carr Midelti and received the IASAS (Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools) Cultural Award for art achievement.

Her paintings were commissioned by Conrad Centennial (Singapore) and Tudor Court Hotel (London).

Kim’s desire for communication and expression through art was re-awakened when she was introduced to Argentine Tango just a year ago in 2008. This exhibition for TangoXposed 2009 is her first step back into art making through the medium of photography – which began as a humble attempt to understand the truth behind Tango and capture the essence of the dance form. Her search continues.

Born in Manila, Philippines, Kim lives in Singapore where she has been working in arts education marketing for more than 10 years. She dances tango three times a week and learns from Singapore’s pioneer tango dancers and visiting instructors from Argentina.

Sylvie Coeli, French Artist

Silvie was born in 1967 in the beautiful area of Montpellier in the south of France where family and environment had influenced so much of her well-being. Her fascination from childhood were centered around the diversities of arts i.e painting, drawing, and sculpture which became her hobbies.

She graduated from the Mercure Institute and  Isecad Montpellier with a degree in Design and Commercial Advertising in 1990 brough about by her great interest in designing and writing. She also finished a degree in Computer Design in 1991.

Sylvie has worked as a graphics designer and media planner in advertising and media agencies during her days in France. She then went to live abroad with her husband and children where they relocated to China and Malaysia in the last 10 years and has since been enamored by the pageantry and allure of Asia. Her travels in many parts of the region help her focus on ocres and lights which reminds her of the origin she came from.

Inspired by the colors and blending of cultures she saw during her travels around the region,  she began to understand the character of the environment that she was into. The atmosphere of her surroundings, the attitudes and lives of people, their kindness and humility as well as the beauty, architecture and landscapes which helped define her art and craft as a consummate artist.

As a result, she made use of Asian vivacious forms and vibrant colors in all her art works within the realm of abstract and figurative paintings. The colours she chose were usually her personal preference creating a harmonious and peaceful yet a positively energizing palette.

Her very first exhibition was held in Malaysia in 2000, encouraged and supported by her family and friends and was followed by succeeding exhibitions in China and France.

Parallel to her paintings, she is also did the illustrations of a children’s book which was published in France but released in Malaysia. last year, a project so close to her heart because of its theme. And another book containing photos about Malaysia.

Sylvie has a deep sense of idealism, altruism and optimism towards life and arts’ curiosity. By reading poems and literature, listening to music and travelling, she believes that our senses are affected by words, flavors, scents and images. And she applies all these in her current pursuit of a new medium, the Tango. In her latest endeavor, she shares with us her innermost feelings about this passionate dance.

For Sylvie, every moment in our life must be cherished such as a passer-by smiling at you, looking at people you love, walking in a beautiful landscape and thinking that all these are unique moments that happen in a split second.

TANGOXPOSED welcomes a sensitive artist with an ultra artistic touch, and a passionate tango dancer, Ms. Sylvie Coeli.
